Hanger Bats and E-Z Tie Dye t-shirts

Page Turner Adventures - Imagine Your Music & Art Story - Tweens Craft Day - Week 5 - Hanger Bats &  E - Z Tie Dye t-shirt

Join our friend, Page Turner, as she leads you through how to make your own hanger bat. Since this week has to do with "sound" and bats use echolocation to find food and navigate while flying - this craft fits with the theme! Also check out the following video to learn more about bats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FVoTMOorXA

Next up our friend Page Turner as she teaches you how to create your very on E - Z Tie Dye t-shirt with permanent marks and rubbing alcohol.  You may want your parents to supervise. And we recommend you do this outside, so you don't create a mess in the house or stain anything AND so that the alcohol fumes can float away in the fresh air.
We did this craft several years ago on the library lawn and found out the following: 1.) it is useful to have plastic gloves so your hands don't get stained (but if they so - don't worry - eventually it wears off, 2.) let your t-shirt dry completely and then hang it out in the sun to set the dye. - DO NOT PUT YOUR SHIRT IN THE DRYER OR NEAR ANY HEAT SOURCE UNTIL IT IS COMPLETELY DRY. ASK MOM OR DAD FOR ASSISTANCE 3.) wash your shirt ALONE in cold water, so that you don't dye/stain any of your other clothes and ruin them. Then dry in the dryer! Good luck and have fun!
It is fun to try to make designs like exploding fire work with a grouping of dots in and then arched lines going out from the the dots all around. Might want to try this since we are close to celebrating the Fourth of July!

Keep learning, creating and reading this summer with your library friends!

Tanabata is a Japanese festival which is observed between July 7th and the end of August, depending on where in Japan it is being celebrated. According to this legend, they are only allowed to meet once per year and this meeting occurs on the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar, which can vary according to region.
